Adam Copeland Doesn't Buy Into The Concept Of Legacies In Pro Wrestling, Says His Kids Are His Legacy

Adam Copeland doesn't need his in-ring accomplishments to define his legacy. Still, he does hope he worked hard enough to make a difference in the industry.

Adam Copeland has three decades in the wrestling industry and had the rare opportunity to rewrite his legacy when he returned to the squared circle after a nine-year retirement as Edge in the 2020 WWE Royal Rumble. Then, he got the opportunity to expand on his legacy even more when he made the jump to AEW at AEW WrestleDream 2024. Now, he is the current AEW TNT Champion and has a whole new roster of competitors to feud with.

With all that under his belt and his decades-long WWE career before his 2011 retirement, Cope's legacy could fill entire tape libraries. However, Speaking on Close Up w/ Renee Paquette, Copeland admits that he's not worried about his legacy and wrestling because it's all decided by the quality of opponents and Bookers along the way. Instead, he hopes he's worked hard enough to make a difference and feels that his real legacy will be defined by who his children turn out to be and how they remember him.

"You know, it's interesting. Some people will say, 'What do you want your legacy to be?' I've always said, 'I don't really buy into the whole 'legacy' thing,' you know, because we're jumping around in tights. The people who make the videos and put the packages together and the bookers are who decide your legacy, so I don't really buy into it. My legacy is, 'Am I raising good kids?' So for me more than anything, it's just, 'Did I work hard?' That's it," said Copeland. "I think my surgeries let me know that I have. More than anything, 'Did I help?' and 'Did I work hard?'"

Elsewhere in the interview, Copeland explained why he's trying to shorten his name to simply "Cope" and slightly teased a fun match with Jon Moxley.
