A highly-anticipated rematch between Invicta FC Atomweight Champion Alesha Zappitella and Jessica Delboni will look to open 2022 with a bang.
The promotion announced that the fight between Zappitella and Delboni is booked for Invicta FC 45. Taking place on January 12 in Kansas City, a broadcast home for the card has not been announced yet.
“We are always looking for new ways to showcase our athletes and having events on Wednesdays will put the spotlight directly on them," Invicta President Shannon Knapp stated. "The rematch between Zappitella and Delboni is a perfect way to kick off the action on our new night.”
Zappitella made her pro debut in 2016. Joining Invicta in 2018, Zappitella is 6-2 with the promotion. In September 2020, the 26-year-old submission Ashley Cummins to win the vacant Atomweight Title.
Delboni made her pro debut in 2013. Joining Invicta in 2018, she is 3-1 with the promotion. In May 2021 at Invicta FC 44, Delboni lost to Zappitella for the title in an extremely close fight that could have gone either way. Looking to redeem herself, Delboni won three fights at Invicta FC: Phoenix Series 4 to become the contender. She beat Tabatha Watkins and Marisa Messer-Belenchia via unanimous decision, and beat Lindsey VanZandt in the finals to secure her spot.
The event will utilize an open scoring system. Other fights on the card include Claire Guthrie v. Lauren Mueller, Courtney King v. Ramona Pascual, Monica Franco v. Hailey Cowan, Hilarie Rose v. Emily Whitmire, and Maria Favela v. Sarah Kleczka.
