UFC veteran Tim Hague passed away after suffering from injuries sustained in a boxing match against Adam Braidwood in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Following the passing of Hague, the city of Edmonton is going to be launching an investigation into the death of the fighter.
This is according to a report filed by MMA Fighting.
A huge factor that played a decision for an investigation was “to conduct a thorough examination of the relevant policy, procedures, training, and equipment pertaining to combative sporting events.”
Hague should not have been cleared for a license until after a full year when he'd been knocked out three times from 2015-2016. He was also knocked out in Russia in July 2016.
It is the Edmonton Combative Sports Commission (ECSC) that oversees combat sports event for the city, they haven’t announced a timetable for how long the investigation would last.
“The review would determine what worked well, what needs improvement and provide recommendations as deemed necessary,” according to the ECSC spokesperson, Holly Budd.
Hague’s boxing promoter in Mel Lubovac issued the following statement after the fighters passing:
“I have had a relationship with Tim for over a decade through the sport of boxing and MMA. He was more than a boxer; he was a friend. I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. I cannot express how heavy my heart is. I would like to send my deepest condolences to his family and friends. We have lost a valuable member of our family. He will be missed and he will forever be in my heart.”
Hague was just 34 years old.
