CM Punk Says He's Struggling With Weight Cut

MMA

On Friday, CM Punk will step on the official scale and will need to be at least 171 pounds to fulfill his UFC fight agreement. His bout against Mickey Gall is in the welterweight division. The six-foot-two thirty-seven-year-old CM Punk talked about both welterweight and middleweight when entering the UFC, but decided on welterweight to make his debut.

MMAFighting's Ariel Helwani sat down for his annual CM Punk interview Wednesday.  When asked about his weight, CM Punk sighed and seemed reluctant to answer. Helwani asked why he was being secretive about his weight , CM Punk said "it's not going so great I guess."  He said he has never went through a weight cut  nor practiced one since signing with the UFC eighteen months ago.  A professional nutritionist helping him was not necessary to CM Punk. "I think some guys need that, I don't" said CM Punk " its common-sense to me".

The last time he weighed 171 pounds was high school "or eighth grade maybe" according to him. Welterweight is "perfect" CM Punk said, he has seen middleweights and realized they are much bigger than him. He added "there's a lot of guys that were fighting at  (middleweight) that are now fighting at (welterweight), there just smaller guys in that division, cause guys cut so much weight."  He said some of his gym mates joke "you could make 155."

On Saturday, CM Punk is scheduled to fight Mickey Gall at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Ohio. The fight will be the third bout on the main card.
