It is no secret now that Colby Covington and UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley aren’t on the best of terms with each other.
The welterweight contender believes that the welterweight champion needs somebody like him -- a villain.
“He needs someone like me, because I’m the villain, I’m the bad guy now,” Covington said to Bloody Elbow. “He needs someone like me, someone that the fans are going to hate. They can rally to his side, because he plays the victim card and he’s always complaining.”
Woodley hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since he successfully defended his title against Demian Maia at UFC 214.
Covington says his focus is on one person right now in Tyron Woodley.
“I’m only focused on Tyron Woodley 100-percent right now,” he said. “We’ll have to see how it plays out. I’m gonna take a little time just to hang out back home in Oregon and relax with my family and stuff. Whenever Tyron Woodley wants to go, we can go. If something happens, I’m a fighter. I love fighting, and I’m the best in the world right now.”
There is currently no top contender named yet who’ll be getting the next title shot at Woodley, who recently said he isn’t competing again until 2018.
