UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes pulled out of the UFC 213 main event against Valentina Shevchenko after being hospitalized on the day of the event.
After pulling out of the main event, the UFC President in Dana White isn’t allowing the champion to headline any more UFC events.
“I won’t main event that title again,” White said at the post-fight presser. “These situations arise all the time. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a situation like today, though, where she was physically capable of fighting.”
Shevchenko and Nunes have already issued their statements about the situation through social media, the bout is possibly being rescheduled for UFC 215.
White himself started getting weary of the situation with Nunes a little while before the UFC 213 ceremonial weigh-ins.
“I got a call that (Nunes) wasn’t feeling well and that it was questionable whether she was going to show up to the ceremonials, because the doctor needed to see her and they needed to find out what was going on with her,” White said. “She does them. Everything’s good. This morning I wake up, and I hear that she’s not feeling well again – no, she’s not feeling well again, and she’s probably not going to fight. I asked the doctors what was wrong with her. She was medically cleared. She was physically OK. They found nothing wrong with her. But she didn’t feel right.”
Nunes has yet to compete this year, as her last bout was a successful title defense over former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey at UFC 207.
