UFC President Dana White has been heavily involved in the negotiations for the boxing super fight between UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.
Progress has been made with the negotiations, as the UFC Lightweight Champion has already signed his half of the bout agreement for the potential super fight.
However, their may be a hitch with the negotiations according to former UFC fighter Jon Fitch. Who is under the assumption that the UFC President is violating the Ali Act with his involvement in the potential McGregor/Mayweather super fight.
“It’s very interesting that this is happening,” Fitch said to Cage Side Press. “It’s exposing the UFC in the restraints they’re putting on the mixed martial arts market. There are certain laws. The Muhammad Ali Act protects McGregor from Dana White getting in between that fight. He can’t act like a manager. It’s illegal for him to act like a manager if he is his promoter, they are playing with fire.”
In the briefest of terms, the Ali Act was put together to help provide a framework to prevent corruption and other nefarious activities in negotiations between fighters and promoters. The act also helps provide guidelines to keep the roles of a manager and a promoter distinct, the act was created around 17 years ago.
It is the part of the act that keeps a manager and a promoter that may get White in trouble, because the UFC President and promoter is acting as a manager in the negotiating progress between the UFC fighter and the boxer.
There is no word yet of or if any action would be taken against the UFC President, which could bring a host of other issues that have delayed the highly anticipated super fight.
