Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza returned after a lengthy absence to defeat Derek Brunson in the main event of UFC On Fox 27.
When the fighter hops back into the Octagon, a suitable opponent would be former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman.
”It’s a fight that makes sense (against Weidman),” Souza said to MMA Fighting. “I never turned down a fight, especially a good fight like this. It would be a huge pleasure to fight him. This is the fight that makes sense now. I don’t know if he’s healthy because he just has hand surgery. What I know is that I’m super healthy. I’ll give my body a few days to rest, celebrate my anniversary a lot more, and then I’ll be back to training.”
Weidman is coming off of a victory over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC On Fox 25 and he doesn’t have a fight booked at the moment.
If the fight were to come together between then two, an ideal location for Souza to compete at would be in Brazil.
”Fighting in Brazil would be wonderful,” he said. “I wanted to fight in Belem, but Derek insisted he wanted to fight in North Carolina, in his hometown. I’d love to fight (in Rio de Janeiro), that would be great for me.”
Souza has previously fought two former/current UFC champions during his UFC tenure, defeating former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort and suffering a loss to current UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker.
