John Lineker is coming off of a decision win over the unranked Marlon Vera on the main card of UFC Fight Night Sao Pualo.
When it comes to the UFC 219 bout between former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz and Jimmie Rivera, the Brazilian is putting himself on standby in case one of those fighters gets injured.
“I’m keeping an eye on the fight between Jimmie Rivera and Dominick Cruz (at UFC 219, on Dec. 30),” Lineker said after the event. “If any of them have to withdraw, UFC, I’m here. I’m on stand-by just waiting.”
Neither Cruz or Rivera have withdrawn or have given any indication they are withdrawing as of this writing.
Lineker also used to compete at flyweight and he wouldn’t mind a shot at UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson.
“Every time (Johnson) fights and wins I get that bitter taste,” Lineker said. “That I could have fought him and be flyweight champion. If there was an opportunity to fight him, it’d be an incredible fight for sure. I’d give him a hard time – if not beat him.”
Johnson hasn’t competed since he broke the UFC consecutive title defense record when he submitted Ray Borg at UFC 216.
