It is no secret now that there is some controversy surround the sparring sessions between UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing star Paulie Malignaggi.
The controversy began after photos surfaced showing what appeared to be McGregor knocking down Malignaggi during those sparring sessions. Outrage was the emotion that came from Malignaggi, who has since come out on social media and other outlets saying the knockdown never happened.
McGregor had stayed quiet for the most part, but then he appeared on “All Access: Mayweather vs. McGregor” episode two and the Irishman says the retired boxing did in fact get a beating.
“He stayed in there, gotta give respect to that, but that was it,” McGregor said. “He came, he got his ass whooped and that’s it.”
Malignaggi has also demanded that McGregor release the full sparring session for the world to see. That sparring session has yet to be released to the public.
As McGregor shifts his focus to Floyd Mayweather, the UFC Champion predicts that he wins the fight within four rounds.
“I am always told I can’t do this, I can’t do that. I feel when someone tells you, you can’t do something, that’s when you must do something,” McGregor said. “I am going to stop this man. There’s no doubt in my mind. This man will be unconscious inside four rounds.”
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
