One of Hollywood’s biggest events of the year are the Golden Globe awards. This year, veteran actress Meryl Streep took home the Cecile B. Demille Lifetime Achievement Award.
While that in itself has little if nothing to do with MMA at all, it was a comment that Streep made during her acceptance speech that angered many the MMA community.
Here is her speech, which was uploaded on Twitter:

For those who don’t wish to check out the 6 minute speech from Streep, you can see an an excerpt below.
“Who are we, and what is Hollywood anyway? It’s just a bunch of people from other places,” Streep said. “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. And if we kick them all out you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”
Quickly after the speech took place, MMA fans, fighters, promoters and others all took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the disrespect given to MMA.
(Note: Some of the Twitter posts do feature vulgar language.)

Fuck Meryl Streep. Talks shit about MMA then says "disrespect begets disrespect". Typical hypocritical Hollywood liberal.

There's that open minded liberal spirit Meryl. Swing at two contact sports on the rise and in turn boost the talk further. #MMA #art #NFL

Leftover Chinese or frozen pizza…paralyzed by indecision. If only I had an A-list celebrity to guide me, perhaps offer general life advice…

MMA and President-elect Donald Trump do have an interesting relationship. In 2016 alone, UFC President Dana White, and Streep targeted him in her speech. At the Republican National Convention and Trump was invited to attend UFC 205 in New York, but he didn’t show up.
