Aleksei Oleinik entered UFC Fight Night 103 looking for his third win under the UFC banner, he wound up submitting Viktor Pesta with an Ezekiel choke.
While it was the tenth Ezekiel choke submission finish Oleinik accomplished in his professional MMA career, it was the first time it was successfully pulled off in the UFC.
“My opponent has a long neck, and when I looked at his fights, I saw he’s not good at protecting his neck,” Oleinik said to MMA Junkie. “He’s a good wrestler, but because he’s a good wrestler, he thinks nobody can choke him.”
It took Oleinik a few attempts before he finally caught Pesta in the choke, but he finally locked it on after Pesta started to relax.
“I tried one, and I gave him a little time to relax a little bit, until he thought nothing was going to happen, and then I did the choke,” Oleinik said.
UFC Fight Night 103 was a night of firsts for the worlds largest MMA promotion, the other first at the event saw former UFC Lightweight Champion and former UFC Welterweight Champion BJ Penn get dropped for the first time in his UFC tenure by a strike. You can see our full coverage at this link.
