Alexander Gustafsson Isn’t Sure About UFC Return, Wants To Fight Luke Rockhold

Alexander Gustafsson retired from professional MMA competition after a fourth round submission loss to Anthony Smith at UFC Fight Night Stockholm

While the fighter has teased a return in the past, a return to training will help Gustafsson to assess whether or not he wants to fight again.

Dark Side Of The Cage To Premiere In January, Will Cover Ronda Rousey, Matt Hughes, Kimbo Slice, More

“It came quite fast,” Gustafsson said to MMA Viking. “I was home for a couple days, and I had itching in my hands and wanted to get back and train. I just want to train and get into shape. Let’s see how it goes.”

Gustafsson had three opportunities to win the UFC Light Heavyweight Title during his career, losing twice to Jon Jones and once to Daniel Cormier.

If Gustafsson does make the decision to return to the Octagon, an ideal opponent would be former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold.

“(I) would love a fight,” Gustafsson said. “A fight against Luke would be a great way to come back. He is a tough guy, a legend.”

Rockhold hasn’t competed since a second round knockout loss to Jan Blachowicz at UFC 239, which was the fighter’s light heavyweight division debut.
