Alexander Volkanovski Hospitalized, Dealing With A Blood Infection

Alexander Volkanovski was last seen in action this past weekend at UFC 237, defeating former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo by unanimous decision.

That joy was short lived for the fighter, who would be hospitalized just a few days after the event due to a blood infection.

Rhys Dal Chin, who serves as Volkanovski’s agent, says the issues with the fighter began when Volkanovski noticed redness in his left foot and sore feet, while also feeling ill.

Dal Chin, in a statement to ESPN, says that Volkanovski is in good spirits and is awaiting test results to see what the next move is going to be.

"Alex is in good spirits," Dal Cin said. "He's resting in the hospital. He's on antibiotics and awaiting blood test results."

The fighter, who is also taking antibiotics, is expected to be released from a hospital in Chile within the next day.

Volkanovski was expecting to get the next shot at the UFC Featherweight Title, but that shot went to former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, who faces champion Max Holloway later this summer at UFC 240. Volkanovski and Renato Moicano are the only two fighters ranked in the featherweight division top five to not get a shot at the featherweight title.
