Alexander Volkov Wants A UFC Heavyweight Title Shot

Alexander Volkov picked up a fourth round knockout victory over former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum in the main event of UFC Fight Night London.

The fighter now wants a shot at the UFC Heavyweight Title, which is currently held by Stipe Miocic. Miocic is going to be defending the gold against UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 226.

“I’ll be happy if it (the title shot) happens in September or maybe in autumn in Russia – for the first event in Russia,” Volkov said after the event. “If the UFC gives me this, I’ll be really happy.”

If Volkov were to get the title shot and win, it would make him the first fighter to have held both the UFC Heavyweight Title and the Bellator MMA Heavyweight Title.

No matter who Volkov fights in a potential title shot, one thing the competitor plans on doing is to use his striking game to become champion.

“I’ll be waiting for the stronger guy,” Volkov said. “I’m just waiting for one of them. It doesn’t matter, because for me, it’s OK for me to win using my striking. I work with wrestling and jiu-jitsu a lot, but I prefer to use my striking.”

Volkov brought up a UFC debut in the country of Russia, which has yet to be officially announced, but rumored to be happening this September.
