Amanda Nunes Says Chronic Sinusitis Caused UFC 213 Main Event Cancellation

MMA

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes was pulled from the main event fight against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 213 after being hospitalized on fight day.

Speculation arose as to what caused the champion to miss a title defense, but now the champion has come out and said that it was a battle with chronic sinusitis that caused that catastrophe.

Nunes made the announcement herself via Twitter:

The whole mess has caused UFC President Dana White to declare that Nunes would never headline a UFC event again.

Also, the UFC President stated that the tentative plan was to hold the women’s bantamweight title fight at UFC 215 this September.

With Nunes/Shevchenko canceled, the interim middleweight title bout that saw Robert Whittaker defeat Yoel Romero wound up headlining UFC 213.
