Augusto Sakai Sees The Positive In Daniel Cormier Retiring

Augusto Sakai competed on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night Fort Lauderdale, defeating former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski by split decision.

Daniel Cormier is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion and has hinted at retirement in the past, which Sakai views as a positive.

”I saw that they might book him against Brock Lesnar and then he might retire, and that will be good for the division,” Sakai told MMA Fighting before UFC Fight Night Fort Lauderdale. “There will be another title fight, things will start to move in the division, so it will be easier for me to dream about that title shot.”

Cormier is rumored to be fighting former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar this summer, but nothing has been made official at this time.

Sakai also believes that the UFC has a lot of plans for him, especially after a successful promotional debut last year and an appearance on Dana White's Contender Series Brazil.

“Coming from the Contender Series and after my debut in Brazil, I think they got good plans for my future,” he said.

There is no word yet on when Sakai will compete next, as he remain unranked in the UFC heavyweight division at this time.
