Former Bellator MMA Bantamweight Champion Marcos Galvao recently returned from a two week vacation in Brazil.
Upon returning to his New York home from said vacation, the fighter discovered that his house was burgled and the money he made from his most recent fights was taken.
"My house is fine, they didn’t take the TV or anything like that,” Galvao told MMA Fighting, “but they took the money I had in the safe…the only person that has the key to my house is the owner, who lives downstairs. I have no suspects. It’s weird. Man, I was saving that money for a longtime. I have to pay the income tax, and I don’t have it anymore.”
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Galvao recover his stolen finances, a total of $26,000 has already been raised.
Galvao is thankful to all those who have helped him since the robbery, including some longtime rivals he has faced in the cage.
"I’d like to thank everyone in Brazil, especially the Nova Uniao guys,” Galvao said. "It doesn’t mater that I fought ‘Dudu’ (Dantas), I love all of them. (Jose) Aldo, Leo (Santos), Marlon (Sandro), they are all supporting me. ‘Dudu' sent me a message as well. I’m happy with their support."
Bellator MMA fans last saw Galvao in the cage at Bellator 175, where Galvao suffered a decision loss to Emmanuel Sanchez.
