Brent Primus won the Belator Lightweight Title at Bellator 180 after then champion Michael Chandler couldn’t continue due to a broken ankle.

Primus isn’t only happy to be the lightweight champion, but he is also taking credit for breaking the former champions ankle.

“I kicked his leg, and I felt his bone, and I really believe I broke that,” Primus said after the event. “I had him injured, so to all you haters, awesome.”

Chandler actually wanted to continue with the broken ankle, but the doctors, fight referee and the athletic commission wouldn’t allow him to fight.

Even though Primus won the championship due to his opponents injury, the new champion still feels like he won the bout.

“Well, I injured him in the fight to stop the fight, so I feel like I won,” Primus said. “But I’ve been practicing those low leg kicks for a while, and I’ve been kicking the crap out of my teammates. That low kick has really been injuring my training partners, and I’m sorry for all my training partners that I’ve been kicking the crap out of for the last few months. But that low kick is deadly, man, and it hurts people and I showed it tonight.”

There is no timetable set yet for when Chandler could return to action, but the new champion promised him an immediate rematch after the fight.
