Cain Velasquez has been granted bail.
Former UFC Champion and WWE star, Cain Velasquez was granted bail by a Santa Clara County (California) judge on the morning of 11/8. The judge's decision came down following a lengthy 13-hour pre-trial hearing that spanned over the course of two days.
The terms of Velasquez's release are as follows:
- $1 million bail
- GPS monitoring
- Compliance to not being in use of any weapons
- CTE/TBI outpatient treatment and counseling
- Protective order to stay at least 300-yards away from the alleged victims, Harry Goularte, Patricia Goularte, and Paul Bender
Santa Clara County's Judge Arthurt Bocanegra told Velasquez (via MMA Junkie):
“This incident is extremely serious but appears to be isolated behavior by Mr. Velasquez. There is also a viable heat of passion defense."
"Mr. Velasquez, I would not release you if I was not convinced that upon a release at this time, eight months later, that you would be a danger to Harry Goularte primarily, Patricia Goularte or Paul Bender,” Bocanegra continued.
"If you are as devoted a husband and father, I’m confident and have to believe you will not jeopardize anything that would take you away from your son, your daughter, your family. I hope you don’t prove me wrong.”
Velasquez responded with a simple: "I won't, your honor."
The 40-year-old former UFC Heavyweight Champion has spent the last eight months in jail after allegedly shooting at a car in which Harry Goularte was in following Goularte being accused of sexual misconduct with Velasquez's 4-year-old son. Velasquez faces a bevy of charges following the shooting, including attempted murder.
Velasquez's previous three attempts at bail were denied as was a petition that he and defense attorney, Mark Geragos submitted to a California appellate court.
