Canelo Álvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol Scheduled For May

Undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Álvarez is set to move up to 175 pounds for his next bout and face undefeated WBA light heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol on May 7.

ESPN's Mike Coppinger was the first to report the news of the matchup being finalized and that DAZN would be providing an official announcement for the fight soon. According to Coppinger's report, Álvarez also has signed with Matchroom Boxing and promoter Eddie Hearn for his next two fights. The first being against Bivol in May, with the second bout being a trilogy meeting against IBF and IBO middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin, on September 17. However, Golovkin will have to defeat WBA middleweight champ, Ryoto Murata, in their title unification bout in April before making a third date with Álvarez official.

Álvarez is 15-0-1 in his last 16 fights and is coming off of an eleventh-round TKO victory over former IBF super-middleweight champion, Caleb Plant, last November. Bivol meanwhile is sitting at 19-0 currently as a pro and will try to build on his eighth consecutive title defense, a unanimous decision win over Umar Salamov back in December.
