CM Punk Says Colby Covington's Gimmick Is Rooted In Racism

Former pro wrestler turned professional MMA fighter CM Punk isn’t one who will shy away from speaking his mind when the opportunity arises.

UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington is a fighter who has created a lot of controversy in the past, but Punk believes that Covington is nothing more than a racist.

"I get what Colby (Covington) is doing, but it's racist. Anything to do with racism is bullshit. Colby is targeting the lowest common denominator but it's not clever,” says Punk on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

Covington is known for his undying support for controversial United States President Donald Trump, even visiting Trump in the White House.

It is unlikely the two will ever settle their differences in the Octagon, as Punk believes his UFC career is probably at an end.

"It's not UFC or bust. It probably doesn't make any sense for me to fight in the UFC again but we'll see what happens,” says Punk.

There has been no response from Covington to what Punk has said at this time, as the interim welterweight champion is still recovering from nasal surgery that cost him a title unification bout with UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 228.
