Conor McGregor Says Trash Talking Ahead Of UFC 229 May Have Gone Too Far

Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor suffered a fourth round submission loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229.

There was a lot of trash talking from McGregor to Nurmagomedov ahead of their bout and McGregor admits that he may have taken things too far.

“Some of the things maybe [went] too far but it is what it is,” McGregor said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “It’s the fight business. At the end of the day, it went the way it went. That’s it.”

McGregor did take many shots at Nurmagomedov in the lead up to the bout, mocking the fighter’s religion, family, friends, wife and Nurmagomedov himself among other things.

While McGregor may be accepting some responsibility for what went down, one thing the fighter also believes is that Nurmagomedov was in the wrong as well.

“It wasn’t just said. There were actions that led to what was said,” McGregor said. “It didn’t just get to words. There was actions that led to those words. Like things throughout the course of the build up like with the Artem [Lobov] situation. Things that maybe slipped under the radar like it was me that began all this. Whatever, it did get very, very personal.”

Nurmagomedov took things personally as well, hopping the cage after defeating McGregor, which instigated a huge post-fight brawl.
