Curtus Blaydes competed in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Nashville, defeating Justin Willis by unanimous decision.
There was a lot of trash talk by Willis in the lead up to the bout, but Blaydes says Willis crossed the line when his father was insulted by the fighter.
“He disrespected my father,” Blaydes told MMA Junkie. “I was all good until then. When he disrespected my father, I held on to that.”
It is unknown what Willis said to Blaydes’ father, but it was during the weigh-ins that Willis had disrespected the elder Blaydes.
A victorious Blaydes knew going into the bout that his wrestling would give him an edge, which is what happened on fight night.
“I knew he couldn’t stop my wrestling,” Blaydes said. “I knew that’s what I was going to do to him. I knew he couldn’t stop my wrestling. I envisioned the entire eight weeks. I knew that was going to happen.”
Blaydes has now won five of his last six bouts under the UFC banner and is currently ranked #4 in the UFC Heavyweight Division, but that ranking can change when the promotion updates them tomorrow.
