Colby Covington Explains How Fight With Joaquin Buckley Came About

“(Nunes is) going to defend her belt in May, I think, and then probably I’m going to fight in July if she wins and is the champion,” Cyborg said at a UFC 222 press event. “I’m not calling her out. She’s calling me out, and I can fight her in July.”

If the fight does come together down the line, in would be the first time to female title holders competed against each other in the promotion.

The two may have been able to clash at UFC 224, but Cyborg thought it was too early after her last bout at UFC 222.

“For me, I think (UFC 224 is) going to be too soon,” she said. “I’m going to Brazil and then I have a lot of things to do, and it’s going to be the end of March. I accepted this (UFC 222) fight because it’s the beginning of March, and I continue to have my plan. But I don’t know, let’s see. It will be exciting.”

UFC 224 takes place on Saturday, May 12 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio De Janiero, Brazil with Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
