Dana White Says Khabib Nurmagomedov Broke His Foot 3 Weeks Before UFC 254

Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254 to become the undisputed UFC lightweight champion, but UFC President Dana White says that Nurmagomedov did so with a pretty serious injury.

White says that Nurmagomedov broke his foot and was in the hospital about three weeks before the event.

“We are all lucky that we got to see him fight tonight,” White said at the post-fight press conference (via Thomas Albano of FanSided). “Apparently he was in the hospital with a broken foot three weeks ago. I think he has two broken toes and a bone in his foot broken, that’s what his corner told me. He never told anyone, was just walking around as normal. He is one of the toughest human beings on the planet.”

Nurmagomedov didn’t just become the undisputed lightweight champion at UFC 254 while fighting with a broken foot, but the fighter also announced his retirement after the event and picked up a $50,000 bonus.
