Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Al Iaquinta in the main event of this past weekends UFC 223 event, becoming the undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion in the process.
For those questioning if there are any other champions in the promotion right now, UFC President Dana White says Nurmagomedov is the only lightweight title holder.
“That’s it,” White said after the event. “That’s the only belt.”
Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson was set to compete against Nurmagomedov at UFC 223, but pulled out of the fight due to injury.
Ferguson isn’t very happy that he has been stripped of the interim title, which the former champion revealed on Twitter:
“You’re Stripping Me Of A Title Because Of That Performance?” I See You Ninjas. #ufc223 Still My Mat. -Champ ---- ---------- pic.twitter.com/V9zjeDZgAe

Besides Ferguson losing his belt, another champion in Conor McGregor was stripped of his lightweight title following UFC 223. However, neither McGregor or anybody from his team have yet to comment on the loss of the UFC Lightweight Title.
As far as who gets the next lightweight title shot and where the division goes in the future, an exhausted White has no answers at the moment.
“I don’t have any ideas after this week,” White said. “My brain is scrambled and I’m a physical mess. I’m praying for Sunday.”
Nurmagomedov said he’s willing to defend the gold against McGregor, but wants the Irishman to beg for a title shot first.
