Dana White Says Potential Robert Whittaker vs. Jared Cannonier Bout Could Be For Next Title Shot

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker scored a unanimous decision win over darren Till in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. Till.

UFC President Dana White checked out the fight, but it wasn’t as exciting of a bout that White thought it would be.

Dark Side Of The Cage To Premiere In January, Will Cover Ronda Rousey, Matt Hughes, Kimbo Slice, More

“Two of the top guys in the world,” White said to Brett Okamoto of ESPN (via Mike Heck of MMA Fighting). “I thought there would be a lot more action, and it ended up being a lot more strategic with guys picking their shots. It wasn’t the fight I expected, but it was a good main event. It was close. It was a razor-thin fight. I had it even going into that last round.”

There is no word yet on what could be next for the victorious Whittaker, but Jared Cannonier seems to be an option.

White is interested in booking Whittaker against Cannonier and the winning could get the next shot at the UFC Middleweight Title.

“It’s so hard to call,” White said. “You got Cannonier in there. Do you do Cannonier-Whittaker? That’s a really good fight to find out who fights the winner of Adesanya and Costa.”

Israel Adesanya is the current UFC Middleweight Champion and he’ll be defending the gold against Paulo Costa in the main event of UFC 253.
