Daniel Cormier Comments On How Happy Ronda Rousey Was Backstage At The 'Elimination Chamber' PPV, Talks Cain Velasquez, More

MMA

Daniel Cormier provides some insight as to when Cain Velasquez's next fight will be and comments on Ronda Rousey being happy in the WWE.

The current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Cormier, was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports. The 20-1-0 Cormier would reveal how the former three-time ESPN 'Female Fighter Of The Year', Ronda Rousey, appeared to be backstage at the most recent WWE PPV. Cormier would also talk about former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez, who was in attendance for the WWE 'Elimination Chamber' PPV in Las Vegas, and provides a bit of insight as to when Cain's next fight will be.

While Velasquez was in attendance, he sent out a tweet, noting that he would love to take another belt from the current WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar; who Velasquez defeated by knockout at UFC 121 in 2010. Daniel Cormier, who is good friends with Cain, would jokingly go over the tweet that was sent to Brock Lesnar.

"If Cain ever decided to go into WWE, I’m sure he’d be very successful. Umm, I don’t know, I don’t why Brock Lesnar would ever fight Cain Velasquez again after the way the first fight went, but you know, people have done crazier things. He [Cain] was just having a good time man. You know, he’s very complementary of Brock Lesnar. He enjoyed the show, it was the first time he’d ever been, so he was really just kind of feeling the energy, feeling the excitement and he tweeted that. Cain’s a fun guy man, I wish people could get to see him in his element more often because he’s a really really good guy."

On a more serious note, Cain Velasquez has not competed in the octagon in nearly two years. His last fight was at UFC 200 during the summer of 2016. Cormier stated that he has been lobbying to get Velasquez on a card. Its just a matter of finding an opponent who is willing to go.

"He’ll be back soon. We are fighting right now to get him on the same card as me and Stipe Miocic." He continued, "If that can happen, I think it adds star power, it just makes a big card even bigger and he’s training, preparing himself, he’s mentally ready to go. Its just a matter of finding him an opponent that works and getting him a fight."

Former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion, Ronda Rousey, signed her RAW contract last week at the 'Elimination Chamber' PPV. Daniel Cormier, who was backstage at the event, stated that it was good to see Rousey do her thing in the squared circle, but the most enjoyable part of it all was to see how happy Ronda appeared to be backstage with her new WWE family.

"You know man, Ronda was a pioneer for women and fighting in the UFC. And she did a good job with the WWE with the spot, but, what made me happier was when we went to the back and we got to see Ronda and just see how much she was smiling, how happy she is to be doing something that she’s wanted to do since she was a young kid. So, as her friend, it was exciting to see her in a good spot in her life."
