Frank Trigg says one day Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones might get along.
During the broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Long Island, Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones were interviewed about their upcoming championship bout at UFC 214. They have met before in a championship bout which inspired a rivalry. On Fightful MMA's podcast Holy Smokes, Frank Trigg said he has seen some changes in the two Light-heavyweights since their last fight.
"You have to make the assumption these guys are not actors, they're fighters," said Trigg. "If you go back and watch the original interviews from the first fight, Daniel Cormier was really angst, he was really emotional in every interview about how much he hated (Jones)...And Jon's confidence was at a all time high back then," he continued.
In the first fight, Jones was the champion; this time Cormier holds the title. Trigg proposed that Jones and Cormier have switched places in another way. He also said he wonders if their behaviors will change further after their feud ends.
"Now the roles are reversed. Daniel's let all that angst and anger go away. He's not emotional about it at all. He's like 'I respect him as a competitor, he's just not a very nice person. We're not going to be friends, we'll probably never be in the same room together.' Which is totally fine, it happens," said Trigg. "Maybe in ten years from now, they will be like Matt Hughes and I, we're totally fine. We can actually talk and we're okay and the kids are running around," he added.
Trigg also talked about his interest in the fight being about the fight itself and not who wins. Additionally he talked about the potential pay-per-views buys for UFC 214. Also on this edition of Holy Smokes, Trigg reviewed some of the events from UFC Fight Night: Long Island.
