John Makdessi is back in action at UFC On Fox 30, where he faces TUF champion Ross Pearson in the featured fight on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card.
The lightweight contender made a major change before his last bout at UFC On Fox 26 and that was to start training with Duke Roufus at Roufosport.
“Getting connected with Duke Roufus…he just kind of refires my spark. Made me realize that I have a lot of good skills, we connect very well…the chemistry is there. Basically, my goal was to go out there and get back confidence…build up my confidence again,” says Makdessi in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
That move to Roufusport worked for Makdessi, who pulled out a unanimous decision win over Abel Trujillo at the aforementioned UFC On Fox 26 card.
Makdessi now meets Ross Pearson and the lightweight contender compares the bout against the TUF alumni to a championship encounter.
“Ross Pearson…I’m taking him very seriously, at the end of the day...this guy fought the best lightweights. In my eyes, I’m fighting for the title. He’s a top guy, he’s been fighting for as long as I have been. He fought the best lightweights, he fought the best guys in the division. Its going to be exciting,” says Makdessi.
UFC On Fox 30 takes place on Saturday, July 28 from the Scotiabank Center in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox.
