Ricky Simon is coming off of a huge victory over Rani Yahya at UFC 234, which took place earlier this month in Australia.
The bantamweight contender was fighting outside of the United States for the first time in his career, but relied on his past coaching experience to get through that particular challenge.
“I’ve traveled a bunch as a coach, I’ve cornered Tyson Nam a few times in Russia. But I’ve never made the trip myself, cutting the weight and going through the jetlag and having to get the energy ready for a different time for a fight. But overall, it went great. I didn’t feel to much jetlag, the weight cut was the best weight cut I’ve ever had. It’s beautiful over here, the whole experience with it was great,” says Simon in an exclusive interview with Fightful’s James Lynch.
Simon has now won three of three under the UFC banner, with those other wins coming over Merab Dvalishvili and Montel Jackson.
This victory didn’t come without some complications, as Simon’s X-Box broke while in Australia.
“So you know there’s…so you travel outside of the country, there’s like different outlets and stuff. So I have this dope…pretty dope setup, I have this suitcase and it opens up and there’s a TV in it and my X-Box in it. It’s to game while you travel and I plug it into the converter, I plug the converter into the outlet and the little power box popped. Then like all the dust flies out of it, I think I got shocked a little bit. So that was that, I never even got to play. My X-Box blew up,” says Simon.
A brand new X-Box will cost approximately $249.99, meaning that Simon’s paycheck for UFC 234 is going to take a minor video game related hit.
