Joanna Jedrzejczyk Gives Advice To Zhang Weili Following UFC 261 Loss: "Start A New Chapter"

Former UFC women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk has offered some advice to fellow former champ Zhang Weili after her first-round knockout loss at UFC 261 to Rose Namajunas.

Jedrzejczyk who has also suffered a first-round defeat in a title fight to Namajunas when the pair first met back at UFC 217, spoke recently with The South China Morning Post's Tom Taylor and gave some pretty straightforward advice to Zhang about overcoming the loss.

“We’re all different,” Jedrzejczyk said. “We all deal with things totally differently – in life or sports situations. It’s not easy to lose the belt, but throw it away, Weili, and go for it. Just don’t think about it. Start a new chapter.”

She continued on to give her thoughts on a potential rematch with Zhang, the two had what was widely regarded as the 2020 Fight of the Year back at UFC 248 where the former Chinese champion won a highly-contested unanimous decision.

“It’s not that I want revenge on Weili Zhang,” she said. “Since I started my relationship with martial arts, I always wanted to put on a performance in fights and always fight the best, and Weili Zhang is one of the greatest. I can see our second fight [happening] because people want to see it, but there has to be big money.”
