Jussier Formiga Wants A Flyweight Title Shot

Jussier Formiga picked up a first round submission victory over Ulka Sasaki on the main card on UFC Fight Night Japan.

With that victory now a thing of the past, the Brazilian fighter wants a shot at the UFC Flyweight Title.

“Some of the guys that I beat got a chance (at the title),” Formiga said to MMA Junkie. “So I think it’s my time. But if the UFC decides not, I’m an employee of the company, and I’ll keep on fighting.”

Of the six fighters that Formiga has defeated during his UFC tenure, only two of those fighters have gotten a shot at the UFC Flyweight Title. Those two fighters are Chris Cariaso (UFC 178) and Wilson Reis (UFC On Fox 24).

Interestingly enough, all four fighters who defeated Formiga during his UFC tenure also got/are getting a flyweight title shots as well. Those four fighters are Joseph Benavidez (UFC 152 & UFC On Fox 9), John Dodson (UFC 191 & UFC On Fox 6), Henry Cejudo (UFC 197) and Ray Borg (getting a title shot at UFC 216).

With Demetrious Johnson successfully defending the title against Ray Borg at UFC 216, the Brazilian fighter wouldn’t be getting a potential title shot until 2018 at the earliest.
