After publicly stating his hopes to "bridge the gap to the title," one of Leon Edwards' ideal routes now looks unlikely.
The Welterweight contender is currently riding a seven fight win streak, most recently outpointing Gunnar Nelson at UFC Fight Night London. Now ranked 11th in the UFC's official 170 pound standings, Edwards appears to be only one or two key wins away from undeniable title contention. If that's indeed the case though, Rafael dos Anjos doesn't appear to be interested in personally presenting Edwards with that opportunity.
'Rocky' took to Twitter today, claiming that dos Anjos had rejected a bout with him that was intended to take place in August. He said the following:
Got the official word that @RdosAnjosMMA turned down a fight with me in August. Add him to the list of pussies that don't want this smoke. That makes 5 now. The so-called top welterweights are a joke #strapseason #mrdoitall

Dos Anjos fought rather recently, submitting Kevin Lee just last month and returning to the win column after two straight losses. He remains 3rd in the UFC's Welterweight rankings though and is only a year removed from fighting for the UFC Interim Welterweight Title. His octagon return is yet to be confirmed but it doesn't appear likely to take place against Edwards, or not in August at least.
