Leslie Smith is the interim president on Project Spearhead, which is attempting to unionize the fighters who compete in the UFC.
The interim president was given a win bonus and show money for a canceled bout at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City, which lead the fighter to believe she is no longer in the promotion.
That situation has lead to Smith filing a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), alleging that the UFC terminated her employment to retaliate against the efforts with Project Spearhead.
A copy of the complaint can be viewed by clicking here.
Smith isn’t the only fighter in the UFC and a part of Project Spearhead, as both Kajan Johnson and Al Iaquinta hold roles in the organization.
Lucas Middlebrook, who serves as a legal consultant for Project Spearhead, penned the complaint against the UFC with the NLRB. There is no word at this time how much further Middlebrook’s involvement with the complaint will go.
There has also been no comment from the UFC on the matter at this time and it is unknown if the promotion will issue a statement.
Since Smith is a free agent right now, it does leave the fighter to negotiate a new contract with whatever MMA organization wants to sign her.
