MMA Veteran Phil Baroni Arrested In Mexico For Allegedly Murdering Girlfriend

Longtime MMA veteran Phil Baroni was arrested in San Pancho, Mexico over the weekend for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

The Tribuna De La Bahía's Isrrael Torres reported on Monday that Baroni flagged down police who were conducting a surveillance of the area, asking them for help with his girlfriend who was unconscious inside a hotel room. The officers found the woman lying naked on a bed where, she was "covered with a sheet that showed multiple traces of blows and bruises on her face and part of her body, without vital signs."

When questioned by authorities, Baroni told them he was under the influence of both marijuana and alcohol, and had a confrontation with his partner at approximately 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon, because she revealed she had cheated on him. The woman only identified as Paola, who was 46 years old, then refused to get in the shower, after Baroni demanded her to do so. He then allegedly "took her by his arms and threw her in the shower where she fell and hit her head."

Baroni then reportedly helped her get up, return to the bed, and gave her a bedsheet after the victim said she was cold. A few moments later she requested beer and cigarettes, which Baroni went and got her. He then returned to lie next to her, realizing she was unconscious, and unsuccessfully attempted to revive the victim before flagging down officers. Baroni was arrested by the State Tourist Police and is being held currently by the Municipal Court of Valle De Banderas.

The 46-year-old Long Island, New York native was a former UFC, PRIDE, Strikeforce, Bellator, ONE Championship, BKFC, and Elite XC veteran, going 16-19 over the span of a 19-year career.
