MMA Veteran Phil Baroni Charged With Aggravated Femicide In Mexico

MMA veteran Phil Baroni has officially been charged with aggravated femicide in Mexico, after being arrested in the country on January 1 for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

ESPN Deportes' Carlos Contreras Legaspi was the first to report the news that Baroni had been charged with the crime by a state judge in Mexico on Monday. The general prosecutor in the State of Nayarit Office presented evidence to the judge, implicating that Baroni physically and verbally assaulted the woman causing "at least 37 injuries" resulting in her death. The 46-year-old Long Island, New York native will remain in the Venustiano Carranza State Jail in Tepic as he awaits trial. If convicted, Baroni would be facing a 30 to 50-year prison sentence per the penal code for the Mexican State of Nayarit.
