Marcin Held is now a free agent. Might the former contender for Bellator's lightweight title be headed to the UFC?
Earlier this week, Held posted on his Facebook page that he had voluntarily let his contract expired. That stands in contrast to what a Bellator spokesman told MMA Junkie, that Held had been released from his deal.
“Something ends, something begins,” Held wrote on Facebook, in his native Polish language.
Held also wrote that while he didn't know what would come next for him he did hope for an opportunity in the UFC.
Held already has been trying to drum up support through social media, asking his Twitter followers on Wednesday whom on the UFC roster his fans would want to see Held face inside the Octagon while using the hashtag #SignHeld.
Held has a 22-4 record as a professional. He went on a career-best six-fight win streak that began in 2013--part of a run that saw the Polish-born competitor tally 11 wins in a span of 12 fights--which included winning Bellator's Season 10 lightweight tournament in 2014. Held did not get his shot at Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks until November of 2015, a fight that Held lost by decision.
Held most recently fought at Bellator 155, defeating Dave Jansen by unanimous decision. That avenged one of Held's rare professional losses -- a decision defeat to Jansen at Bellator 93 back in March of 2013.
Twelve of Held's 22 professional victories have come by some form of submission.
