A middleweight division attraction has been added to UFC 237 according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN as #9 Jared Cannonier is in action against #15 Anderson Silva.
Cannonier (11-4-0) has been undefeated since dropping to the middleweight division, defeating David Branch by second round TKO at UFC 230. Cannonier has previously competed at heavyweight and light heavyweight in the UFC, earning an overall record of 4-4-0 in the promotion. Cannonier is a former Alaska Fighting Championship Heavyweight Champion, defeating Tony Lopez to win the gold at Alaska FC 104 in January of 2014.
Silva (34-9-0-1NC) has won just one of his last seven under the UFC banner, with that lone victory coming over Derek Brunson at UFC 208. Silva is a former UFC Middleweight Champion, defeating Rich Franklin by first round knockout at UFC 64 to claim the gold. Silva hasn’t picked up a victory in over two years, with his last victory coming at the aforementioned UFC 208 card in February of 2017.
UFC 237 takes place on Saturday, May 11 from the Arena De Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
