Ranked Strawweight contender Cynthia Calvillo has reportedly had her next outing delayed, suffering a broken foot and withdrawing from her upcoming fight.
Originally set to fight Livinha Souza on July 13th at UFC Fight Night Sacramento, Calvillo (8-1) was once again looking to make it three straight wins inside the octagon. However, her attempt at achieving that feat will now have to come later, with MMA Junkie reporting that she'll need six weeks to recover after breaking her foot. In her place, MMA Brazil reports that Brianna Van Buren will now step in.
'Tha Bull' is an octagon newcomer, most recently competing in Invicta where she won three fights in one night to become the promotion's Strawweight champion. Prior to that, Van Buren (8-2) had split her two other Invicta appearances but now enters the octagon in career-best form. At UFC Fight Night Sacramento, Van Buren will look to defeat Souza, another former Invicta titleholder.
Souza is currently 2-0 inside the octagon, unsurprisingly experiencing success after an impressive 4-1 run in the Invicta cage. In April 2015, the Brazilian submitted Katja Kankaanpää to take the promotion's 115 pound title but after just one successful defense, lost the belt via split decision against Angela Hill. Souza (13-1) has since rebounded though, scoring four straight wins.
UFC Fight Night Sacramento takes place at the Golden 1 Center on July 13th. The event airs on ESPN+ and currently features the main event of Aspen Ladd vs. Germaine de Randamie as well as Urijah Faber's comeback fight against Ricky Simon.
