There is going to be one less bout on the UFC 243 card because former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm has suffered an injury and has been pulled from a bout against Raquel Pennington, who has also been removed from the event.
ESPN first reported the news, but the nature of Holm’s injury and how long the fighter is expected to be out of action for has yet to be revealed. There has been no comment from the UFC, Holm or Pennington at this time in regards to the UFC 243 bout being canned.
The bout between Holm and Pennington was a rematch from a previous encounter at UFC 184, which Holm won via split decision. There is no word yet on which preliminary card bout is going to be moved up to the main card, but that decision should come shortly.
It is also unknown at this time as to whether Holm and Pennington will get rescheduled for a future card or if the fighters will go their separate ways.
UFC 243 takes place on Saturday, October 5 from the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia with Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
