Khabib Nurmagomedov is getting into the promotion business.
The retired UFC champion recently purchased the Dagestan-based promotion Gorilla Fighting Championship for $1 million, according to Russian journalist Azamat Bostanov — per RT Sport. The promotion will reportedly be renamed Eagle Fighting Championship in honor of Nurmagomedov's nickname. Further details are expected to be announced and confirmed by Nurmagomedov at a press conference in Moscow on December 2.
Nurmagomedov (29-0) last fought on October 24 in the main event of UFC 254. "The Eagle" successfully defended his UFC lightweight title against Justin Gaethje via second-round technical submission (triangle choke). He subsequently announced his retirement from the sport.
UFC President Dana White recently told MMA media that he has a meeting planned with Nurmagomedov in the near future. The general belief is that White wants to discuss a potential next fight for Nurmagomedov; however, some now believe the pair will discuss adding Eagle Fighting Championship to UFC Fight Pass' roster of programming.
