UFC fighters Nate Diaz and Clay Guida had an altercation this past Friday while attending a Combate Americas card in California.
Reports have suggested that Diaz and an entourage shoved Guida from behind, sending the fighting into a guardrail and busting his lip open.
MMA Fighting is now reporting that the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department will open up an investigation against Diaz, which will begin after a detective is assigned to the case. Guida has already filed an incident report with the sheriff’s department, no word yet on whether or not Diaz has spoken with anybody regarding the case.
“If it is found the victim was assaulted then a warrant request will be completed and submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review,” Sgt. Shaun Hampton said. “The filing decision will be up to the DA.”
Guida already holds a victory over Diaz in their lone UFC bout, which came via split decision at UFC 94 in 2009.
The lightweight contender is back in action in just a few short weeks at UFC 225, where he takes on Bobby Green on the Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card.
