Following the cancellation of the original main event of Bellator 219 between Andrey Koreshkov and Lorenz Larkin, a new bout will headline the card according to MMA Junkie and it is a lightweight division bout as Saad Awad faces Brandon Girtz.
Awad (23-10-0) has won four of his last five under the Bellator MMA banner, with those wins coming over Ryan Quinn, Zach Freeman, JJ Ambrose and Ryan Couture. Awad has seen ten of his professional MMA fights go the distance, with the competitor winning five and losing five of those encounters. Awad has spent the last six-plus years competing in Bellator MMA and holds an overall record of 11-6-0 in the promotion.
Girtz (15-8-0) has won just one of his last five in the promotion, with that lone win coming over Luka Jelcic at Bellator 190. Girtz is returning to action for the first time in over a year, with his last bout taking place in April of 2018. Girtz has picked up fifteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and more than half of those victories came by way of submission.
The co-main event of the show will see the return of former featherweight champion Daniel Straus, who was almost killed in a motorcycle accident in December of 2017, faces Shane Kruchten.
Bellator 219 takes place on Friday, March 29 from the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California with Saad Awad and Brandon Girtz headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the Paramount Network.
