Report: Thiago Santos Underwent Knee Surgery Today

Thiago Santos and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones competed at UFC 239, with Jones walking away with a split decision victory.

A defeated Santos went twenty five minutes against Jones while competing with two badly damaged knees and those knees are getting surgically repaired today.

Santos would comment on the matter via Twitter:

MMA Fighting is reporting that Santos was supposed to get the knee surgeries done tomorrow, but doctors opted to move up the surgery by a day. The doctor doing the work on Santos had allegedly told the fighter that there was no scientific reasoning as to how Santos managed to compete with those badly injured knees for twenty five minutes.

The Brazilian fighter did have right knee surgery before UFC 239, leaving him compromised physically even before facing Jones at UFC 239.

There is no official word yet as to how long Santos is expected to be out of action for, but Santos is rumored to be back in action around mid-2020.
