Irene Aldana was in need of a new opponent at UFC Fight Night Mexico City after the withdrawal of Marion Reneau and now she has one because AG Fight is reporting that Vanessa Melo has accepted the short notice opportunity.
Aldana (10-5-0) has won three of her last four under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over the trio of Talita Bernardo, Lucie Pudilova and Bethe Correia. Aldana has competed six times in the UFC and five of those six encounters went to the judges scorecards. Aldana has picked up ten wins as a professional MMA fighter and half of those victories came by way of KO/TKO.
Melo (9-5-0) is going to be making her UFC debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a four fight winning streak. Melo has fought a UFC veteran prior to signing with the promotion, as she defeated Molly McCann at XFC International 12. Melo has competed fourteen times as a professional MMA fighter and eleven of those encounters went the distance.
UFC Fight Night Mexico City takes place on Saturday, September 21 from the Arena Ciudad De Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico with Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
