A highly anticipated featherweight division clash at UFC 228 between Yair Rodriguez and Zabit Magomedsharipov has been pulled from the event, as Rodriguez has suffered an injury according to Tarso Doria of MMA Brasil.
UFC officials are seeking a replacement to fight Magomedsharipov, who is expected to remain on the card at this time. There is no word yet on the nature of the injury suffered by Rodriguez or how long the fighter is going to be out of action for.
Magomedsharipov (15-1-0) is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, having defeated the trio of Mike Santiago, Sheymon Moraes and Kyle Bochniak. Magomedsharipov hasn’t suffered a defeat in over five years, with that last loss coming to Igor Egorov at Pro FC 47. Magomedsharipov also competed six times in the Absolute Championship Berkut promotion, winning six of six fights while in the organization. Magomedsharipov has picked up fifteen victories as a professional MMA fighter, with twelve coming by way of KO/TKO and submission.
UFC 228 takes place on Saturday, September 8 from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas with Tyron Woodley and Darren Till headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
