Big blow to UFC on ESPN 3.
Brazilian media outlet AgFight reports that Yoel Romero is out of his UFC on ESPN 3 main event fight against Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. Romero reportedly contracted pneumonia, causing him to withdraw. It is unknown whether or not Souza will remain on the Apr. 27 card in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Souza was looking for revenge in Florida as he dropped a split decision to Romero back in December 2015 at UFC 194. Romero has not fought since losing a split decision to Robert Whittaker in June 2018 at UFC 225. The back-and-forth war between the two men won Fight of the Night and Fight of the Year honors.
The fight against Whittaker was scheduled to be for the UFC Middleweight Title, but Romero missed weight prior to the fight. He has missed weight in his last two UFC fights. The 41-year-old is 1-2 in his last three fights and 13-3 in his career.
UFC has not confirmed Romero's illness or the report that he is out of the fight.
