Play-by-Play

(#6) Stephen Thompson vs. Kevin Holland

Round One - Thompson throws a wild side kick to the body as Holland comes over the top with an overhand left to start but neither land clean. Holland clinches but Thompson spins off the fence and circles back to the center of the octagon. Thompson lands a straight left then a side kick to the body and Holland clinches once again. Thompson shoves Holland back and cracks him with a straight left but there's a cut leaking from above Thompson's left eye, not sure where that came from. Holland lands a low kick, Thompson has a side kick to the body caught and he's spun around by Holland, who lands a step-on knee and Thompson is hurt but he comes right back with some fire and drills Holland with a left hook. Holland wallops Thompson with a right hook and Thompson is hurt bad and retreating. Holland cracks Thompson with a 1-2, and rips a right hook to the body as Thompson clinches. Holland lands a couple elbows inside of the clinch and breaks loose before blocking a head kick attempt from Thompson, who lands a left hook. Thompson goes for a question mark kick up top but Holland times a sliding leg kick perfectly and Thompson trips to the mat but pops right back up. Thompson drills Holland with a left hook but Holland somehow walks through it and just misses a head kick. Thompson lands a straight left as Holland lands a knee to the midsection. Holland with a low kick, Thompson responds with one of his own and Holland lands a body kick and a right hook to the body at the horn and a wild opening frame comes to a close.

Round Two - A high kick lands for Thompson but Holland just laughs it off and continues his march forward. Thompson comes rushing forward and lands a 1-2 and Holland just missed a wild overhand left before exchanging low kicks. Holland lands a left hook, Thompson just misses an elbow and has a head kick blocker. Thompson rushes forward and lands a left hook but Holland hits Thompson with a knee to the body to halt Thompson's momentum for the time being. Holland lands a low kick then a side kick to the body but Thompson comes back with a 1-2. Thompson cracks Holland with a left hook and Holland trips Thompson to the mat but gets right back up, as does Thompson and that gets a glove tap from each man, who want to put on a show for the Orlando, Florida crowd in attendance. Thompson lands a side kick to the body, then another kid to the body lands for Thompson. Holland drills Thompson with a left hand and Thompson drops to the mat but pops right back to his feet and drills Holland with a left hand. Thompson just misses a wild spinning back kick but lands a right hand that has Holland retreating but Holland lands a right hand of his own and the buzzer sounds to end an absolutely wild second round.

Round Three - Holland land a low kick to start and jokingly tells Thompson to slow down, which gets a laugh from both competitors. Thompson lands a jumping switch kick but again, Holland somehow just walks through it. Holland lands a knee to the body and trips Thompson to the mat but both competitors are right back up. Holland lands a straight left, Thompson comes back with a 1-2 and drops Holland with a spinning back kick to the chin but he allows Holland back up, which earns him a glove tap from the 'Trailblazer'. Thompson lands another spinning back kick up top and Holland just misses a big elbow in response. Holland clinches but nothing lands and both break off and start swinging right back in the middle of the cage. Thompson lands a 1-2, then a looping left hook as Holland lets out a big breath. Thompson throws a flurry of shots then a spinning back kick and Holland laughs and walks through it. This is madness. Thompson lands a kick to the body and a right hook then just misses a lighting quick spinning back kick and the horn sounds to end a ridiculous third round.

Round Four - Holland appears to be favoring his left hand and holds his right hand perfectly still the entire balance of the break between the third and fourth rounds but lets see. Thompson opens the action with yet another spinning back kick but he's doesn't get all of it this time. Holland throws a flurry but nothing of consequence lands and Holland clinches Thompson against the fence. Referee, Dan Miragliotta calls for both men to get back to the middle of the cage as nothing is happening along the fence. Thompson lets off a 1-2, then a left hook and Holland lands a low kick. Thompson cracks Holland with a question mark kick and Holland drops to the mat but gets right back up and dives for a takedown as Thompson backs up to the fence. Holland folds and referee Dan Miragliotta waves this one off. But Miragliotta corrects himself and says it was a groin shot from Thompson and Holland will just get the normal five-minute break and the fight will resume. Holland only used a few seconds and tells Miragliotta that he's good to go and this one is back underway. Thompson lands a kick to the body, then one to Holland's lead leg. Thompson wallops Holland with a spinning back kick and Holland is somehow still standing and he eats ANOTHER spinning back kick to the head and ANOTHER head kick lands for Thompson. Holland is an absolute animal for walking through all of this and he's still upright. Thompson starts going to the legs and lands a calf kick, then another before landing a side kick to the body. Holland lands a front kick to the body but Thompson cracks him with another spinning back kick but Holland is still standing and is throwing back in Thompson's way. Holland lands a low kick, Thompson with another side kick to the body and he drops Holland with a left hook. Thompson starts landing heavy shots of ground-and-pound then stands up and the horn sounds to somehow send this one to the fifth and final round.

Round Five - In-between the fourth and fifth round, Holland's coach, Bob Perez tells referee, Dan Miragliotta to end this one due to the damage Holland suffered in the fourth coupled with the apparent right hand injury. Good call from Perez and a massive performance from Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson, who'll be 40 the next time he walks down to the UFC octagon. Props to Kevin Holland for a massive display of heart after that performance.

Bryan Barberena vs. (#7LW) Rafael dos Anjos

Round One - Another slow starter in this one but if early slow starting bouts are any indication, we're in for quite the finish. dos Anjos dives in for a takedown and gets it. dos Anjos looks for an arm-triangle but Barberena remains calm and is able to escape. RDA gets full mount but nothing of consequence lands for the former UFC Lightweight Champion and the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two - Barberena lets off a 1-2 to start. Barberena initiates the clinch and has dos Anjos pressed against the fence. RDA spins himself off the cage and circles back to the center of the octagon. RDA shoots for a takedown and gets Barberena down to the mat. Barberena scrambles and quickly pops back up to his feet. RDA trips Barberena right back down to the mat, Barberena scrambles, RDA gets the back and sitches in the rear-naked choke and Barberena has no choice but to tap! Rafael dos Anjos is back!

(#6) Matheus Nicolau vs. (#7) Matt Schnell

Round One - Not much action going on early. Nicolau cracks Schnell with a left hook seemingly out of nowhere but Schnell pops right back up and Nicolau lands a 1-2 and a low kick. Schnell recovers well and lands a straight left at the horn to end an extremely slow opening frame that picked up at the very end.

Round Two - Nicolau stuns Schnell with a 1-2 and drags Schnell to the mat with a perfectly timed takedown. Schnell scrambles and gets back to his feet but Nicolau cracks Schnell with another 1-2, Nicolau keeps landing shots and this one is waved off! What a performance by Matheus Nicolau!

(#4) Tai Tuivasa vs. (#5) Sergei Pavlovich

Round One - A rare hug is exchanged after this one officially gets underway. Pavlovich stuns Tuivasa with a massive left hook right away and 'Bam Bam' is hurt bad. Pavlovich continues the barrage and is landing several thunderous blows and sends Tuivasa to the mat with a jab but Tuivasa somehow pops right back up but gets sent right back down with an overhand right and after a few follow up shots, referee Dan Miragliotta waves this one off! What a performance by Sergei Pavlovich!

Result: (#5) Sergei Pavlovich def. (#4) Tai Tuivasa via KO (punch) (0:54, R1)

(#8) Jack Hermansson vs. Roman Dolidze

Round One - Not much action early. Hermansson dives in and gets an early takedown but Dolidze is active on his back and looks for a choke. Dolidze scrambles, Hermansson holds him down, Dolidze sweeps and gets right back up to his feet but Hermansson keeps clinched and has Dolidze pressed against the cage. Dolidze's able to power out and spin himself off the fence and circles back to the center of the octagon. Hermansson lands a low kick, Dolidze whiffs on a 1-2 but blocks a head kick from Hermansson. Another kick to the lead leg lands for Hermansson but he walks right into a straight left from Dolidze. Hermansson lands yet another low kick and partially lands a left hook right at the horn, which signifies the end of the opening frame.

Round Two - Hermansson tries to clinch right away but Dolidze snaps his head back with a jab to fend him off for the time being. A 1-2 and a leg kick land for Hermansson, who dives in for another takedown but gets cracked with a right hand by Dolidze, who stuffs the continued takedown. Dolidze lands a straight left, then another as a graphic pops up on the broadcast showing a 17-0 advantage for Hermansson in the leg kick department. Hermansson has a high kick blocked and Dolidze lands a left hook as Hermansson rips a right hand to the body. Hermansson drops down and lands a perfectly timed takedown and has Dolidze on his back against the mat. Dolidze scrambles and teases a triangle but Hermansson transitions to side control to avoid trouble. Hermansson stands, Dolidze looks for an armbar, Hermansson slides to side control but Dolidze locks in a calf slicer that he uses to end up with back control and Dolidze now has Hermansson flattened out on his stomach! Dolidze is reigning down shot after shot after shot and referee, Marc Goddard has seen enough! What a finish by Roman Dolidze!
